Customised Strand lamp
These iconic designs from the renowned brand STRAND, namely the “Älien” and “Pipo” types, hail from the 1950s and 1960s. These original vintage English lamps are crafted from high-quality aluminum and expertly cast, making them both durable and stylish.
The “Älien” lamp is a particularly iconic design, produced between 1957 and 1960, and features an original barndoor to precisely direct the light beam. This lamp stands on an original Strand Electric tripod, model 626.
The PAT 23 MK 2 model, better known as “Pipo,” was designed in the 1960s by the renowned aircraft designer Morgan McLeod. This lamp is distinguished by its single lens and four shutters.
In 2010, the "Älien" lamp underwent a meticulous hand restoration. An extensive photo report and a detailed file document over 100 hours of restoration and polishing work. Every detail of the lamp has been carefully restored, optimizing both its functional and aesthetic aspects without losing its original vintage character.
The artisanal leather craftsmanship of "Jan Pulles" has made these lamps even more unique. He has adorned the lamps with beautiful calf leather, with various parts of the lamps hand-covered. This entire lamp has been carefully hand-polished, preserving its authentic vintage character, including signs of use and manufacturing marks. This tripod, complete with its original nameplate, is a rare collector's item. Many of these tripods have been lost, damaged, or processed as scrap over the years, making this complete combination exceptionally rare.
The leather has been meticulously cut to size by hand, coloured, and brushed to create a stunning patina that gives the lamps an extra luxurious appearance. Each leather component is manually stitched with needle and cotton thread, emphasizing the unique, handmade nature of these pieces. A comprehensive photo report of this process is also available.
The outer lens tubes are adjustable, allowing the user to narrow or widen the light beam as desired. The lens holder is equipped with a safety chain for added security and stability.
